28 Jun Why buying into fad diets won’t help you maintain a lean lifestyle
In the past few weeks I’ve been keen to share my passion for helping as many people as possible to live a healthy, lean lifestyle, which is so good for you in so many ways.
Recently I’ve explained the importance of your macros targets, aired my concerns over misleading sensationalist health news stories and shared recipes to delicious topped Proats. This week, however, I want to speak to you all about the risks of buying into fad diets.
You’ve probably heard of many different types of diet, whether it’s ketogenic, Atkins, the 5:2 plan or anything else someone famous is preaching about on Instagram. Each of these are unique to one another, but still sell themselves on being the Holy Grail solution for you.
In reality, buying into a specific diet doesn’t really matter, because the core principles of weight loss are the same. So long as you keep a high level of protein intake and your daily calories are under your maintenance level (which I explain more about in the macros blog), you will lose weight. Conversely, if you consume more than you burn, you’ll put on weight. It’s that simple.
I expand on this much further in the video below, along with with a little help from Mr Greedy himself. You’ll see what I mean…

Two friends of mine are currently trying to lose weight, each of them going about it under a different diet umbrella. One saves the bulk of calories for the evening, the other focuses on high fat foods throughout the day with fewer carbs. But their target of going under their maintenance calories is a constant and illustrates why suddenly jumping into the latest celebrity diet trend isn’t going to be the right choice for you.
